Remembering the Miracle at Gunpoint

TODAY’S PROVERB: The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the mouth of the upright delivers them. Proverbs 12:6

It has been three years and 3 days since the young man pointed a gun at me and my friend. I can still picture him — but, the anxious feeling when I think about it is no longer there. Many would doubt this, but I can honestly say that I am honored to have gone through that experience. (Link to the story)

To be chosen to speak words of life to that boy. For him to choose mercy when I said my friend had survived cancer. For him to return my car keys and walk away. It was a miracle. And to be able to witness that and his choice to show mercy and shame . . . Humbling. Amazing.

I also realized most dramatically that God holds my life in His Hand. No matter what had been the outcome, I am safe in His eternal grasp.

Today, I want to remember the young man. I ask for your prayers for him. That the tender ember of mercy — if it hasn’t already — would be fanned into flames. That wherever he is, and whatever he is doing, his life would be transformed. That he would take others with him in this faith journey.

Will you pray for him today, my friends?
