Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 6:9

Terri GillespieWisdom’s Journey Through Proverbs

Wake up!

TODAY’S PROVERB: How long will you lie there, slacker? When will you get up from your sleep? Proverbs 6:9, TLV

We are living in a world of “sleepwalkers” and relational “slackers.” Who knew that entertainment and technology would draw us into a state of idleness and numbness that would both rob us of true rest, relationship with our loved ones, and productivity?

Our Heavenly Father gave us a day of rest — at least once per week. But, if we tallied the minutes and hours of technology outside our jobs, I would venture to say we’re either overworking or over-numbing our minds — perhaps both.

Placing limits on our activities associated with technology is wise. Anything with an off switch that lights a dark room, how about turning them off?

Then, we must learn or re-learn how to engage with the world outside of technology. I think if we’re prayerful about it, our Father will show us. It will become evident where our time was being robbed of purpose or rest. Who are the people and activities in the real world He wants us to interact with. He’s very capable with things like this. And that’s a good thing.

May we rise up from our “slumber,” my friends.
