Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 26:5

Terri GillespieWisdom’s Journey Through Proverbs

Do you answer wisely?

TODAY’S PROVERB: Answer a fool according to his folly, else he will be wise in his own eyes. Proverbs 26:5

Have you ever participated in an argument that went nowhere? All because every reasonable effort to resolve the dispute was deflected on to a circuitous path? The argument just keeps going around and round in circles.

Praying for wisdom and discernment is critical for times like this. Only through the Holy Spirit’s direction can we see the true issues of the conflict. Finding those issues and staying on topic give us the chance for a resolution. And, honestly, we may have to do this repeatedly.

Generally, my experience has been that if after multiple attempts to get the discussion back on the track fail, then — when possible — it’s best to walk away. After a breather, then regroup with the Holy Spirit for insights and wisdom before returning to the discussion.

It’s easy to lose our temper over the foolishness of the circumstance and the frustration when the other party is stuck in the vortex of proving how right they are. But, losing our temper doesn’t help. In fact, it can make the other person feel justified in their position and then it stalls any real resolution.

Have you ever been part of an argument that went nowhere? How did you resolve it? Was it resolvable?

May we respond wisely to a foolish argument, my friends.
