Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 30:24-28

Terri GillespieWisdom’s Journey Through Proverbs

Can you spot the “coneys” around you?

TODAY’S PROVERB: Four things on earth are small,
yet they are exceedingly wise:
  ants are creatures with little strength,
yet they store up their food in summer;
 coneys are creatures with little power,
yet they make their homes in the cliffs;
  locusts have no king,
yet they advance together in ranks;
  a lizard you can catch with the hand,
yet it is found in kings’ palaces. Proverbs 30:24-28

Ants, coneys (rabbits), locusts, and lizards — oh my! Not the most impressive of God’s LookingforProblemscreatures. Some we might even consider pests. Yet, each of them are exceedingly wise and can perform feats most of us would never attempt. Why? Because they were created to do them. Because they live who they are.

There are people who know who they are. They know their strengths. They know their limitations. And they are content.

I admire those people. They don’t pretend to be something they’re not because they are grateful to our heavenly Father for what they have and know they are deeply loved by Him.

People who are at peace with themselves seem to operate well in grace and mercy. They can step up when needed and step back to let others shine. If we scratch below the surface, we’ll see a world of victories we would love to have in our own lives.

When there are moments they question their purpose, they don’t fret or worry, they simply go to the Father and inquire. Others around them may never know the challenges they overcome everyday.

Do you know people like this? They’re actually difficult to find, like coneys hidden away in the cliffs, or ants under foot. You have to observe and search to find them because they don’t toot their own shofar.

So, the next time we see someone who appears to be a small, quiet soul, take the time to watch their life. Take the time to talk with them. See what resides behind the seemingly unimpressive exterior. Who knows what we can learn.

May we find the “coneys” around us, my friends.
